Learning Outcomes and Application This unit involves the skills and knowledge required to maintain grease, oil levels and quality in all areas of power generating plant. The selection and use of lubricants, as well as the care and operation of lubricating systems, is an essential part of any power generation plant maintenance program. Competency in this unit requires the ability to plan and prepare plant to conduct lubrication, performing routine checks on plant, conducting plant lubrication and completing documentation. Individuals will, in general, work as an operator, in a power generation facility. Power generation plant operators are typically trained and authorised to isolate, prepare plant and issue permits to workNo licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.Note: Workplace practiceThe application of the skills and knowledge described in this unit may require a licence or training permit to practice in the workplace, where work is carried out on gas and electrical installations. Additional conditions may apply under state and territory legislative and regulatory licensing requirements.

Elements of Competency Performance Criteria              
Element: Plan and prepare to conduct plant lubrication
  • Work, Health and Safety (WHS)/Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) regulations are identified and applied, in accordance with workplace procedures
       
Element: Work requirements are identified, in accordance with workplace procedures, from relevant personnel and documentation
       
Element: Plant lubricating status is assessed and evaluated from documentation, in accordance with workplace procedures
       
Element: Isolation of power generation plant is arranged, in accordance with workplace procedures
       
Element: Tools, lubricants and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) are acquired and used, in accordance with workplace procedures
       
Element: Perform routine checkson plant lubrication
  • Power generating plant is checked, in accordance with workplace procedures
       
Element: Power generating plant affected by abnormal lubrication are identified and appropriate personnel are informed, in accordance with workplace procedures
       
Element: Conduct plant lubrication
  • Power generating plant requiring lubrication are cleaned, in accordance with workplace procedures, before lubricating work is carried out
       
Element: Power generating plant is lubricated, in accordance with Safety Data Sheets (SDS)/Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS), manufacturer specifications and workplace procedures

Assessment Tasks
